This cartoon takes place in an optician’s examination room, where a patient is sitting in front of the familiar eye chart used for vision tests.
The optician, peering closely through a magnifying glass, seems startled as the patient points out a tiny spelling mistake right at the bottom of the chart.
The optician exclaims: “You’re right – they have spelt ‘Printed in China’ incorrectly!”
The humour here lies in the absurdity of the situation. Eye charts are designed to test how well we can see, yet the patient’s vision – or perhaps his pedantic attention to detail – has gone far beyond what anyone could reasonably expect.
It’s a light-hearted take on the quirks of human nature and the kind of observation that would amuse anyone who’s ever had an eye test.
