This mug features one of my favourite medical cartoons – a patient asking a doctor what his “gut feeling” is.
It’s one of those simple ideas that made me smile as soon as it came to mind, and I enjoyed sketching it out with that slightly weary but good-natured expression that doctors so often seem to have.
The cartoon has a nice light tone and sits on a soft paper-effect background, which I think gives it a bit of warmth and a traditional look.
I’ve met plenty of doctors over the years who’ve said humour is a vital part of the job, helping them deal with the daily challenges of medicine. That sense of balance – between seriousness and laughter – is something I’ve always tried to capture in my cartoons.
This design seems to strike the right note for people working in hospitals and clinics, and it makes a good conversation starter when printed on a mug like this.
It’s a fun little gift for anyone in the medical profession – doctors, nurses, medical students, or anyone who appreciates a light-hearted look at life in healthcare.
Whether it’s sitting on a desk in a surgery or filled with coffee during a late shift, it’s a small reminder that even in the most serious jobs, a bit of humour goes a long way.
I’ve also created this same cartoon on a greeting card and a few other items, so if you’d like to see the full range, you can find them all in my Fun Graphics Zazzle store.
It’s always enjoyable seeing how a single cartoon works across different formats – sometimes it takes on a whole new feel depending on the product.
If you know someone in healthcare who could use a smile, this mug might just do the trick. After all, laughter really can be the best medicine.
